$1.3M Forest Service Grant Supports Firewise Work

Big News!  Last month the US Forest Service announced its 2024 Community Wildfire Defense Grant (CWDG) awards, and MCFSC was granted $1,300,000, mainly for work over the next 4-5 years to establish more Firewise USA®-certified communities throughout Mendocino County.

The grant also supports refocusing on community education, and stimulating local activities and projects through additional funding for Micro-Grants, specifically for neighborhoods that become Firewise-certified.

We believe that Firewise-level wildfire preparedness, which requires making a risk assessment and action plan, and starting to track fire-safe work hours and other investments, is the best way to reach a high level of community safety and preparedness.

If your neighborhood is ready to take those steps – or even if you are currently only thinking about it – we are here to help! Contact Eva King at (707) 518-3088 or king@firesafemendocino.org, and/or visit our website for more information on Firewise certification for your neighborhood.
