How to Harden Your Home Against Wildfire
Learn the steps you can take to protect your home and property against wildfire with our DIY series created in partnership with UC Cooperative Extension.
Our Home Hardening videos were developed by experts from the UC Cooperative Extension. They guide you through practical actions that will increase your home’s resistance to wildfire. The steps are presented in order of priority, so if you proceed though the content using the left menu from top to bottom, you will address the most important concerns first for the majority of homeowners in a Wildland-Urban interface (WUI) area.
The production of these videos was a project of North Coast Opportunity’s EPIC (Emergency Preparedness In Communities) program, in partnership with LISTOS California, the governor’s campaign to better prepare a million vulnerable Californians.
Our Home Hardening Video Guide, developed by experts from the UC Cooperative Extension, describes practical actions you can take to increase your home's resistance to wildfire. Each page presents:
- a quick summary video of the action steps you can take now
- a longer, more in depth video with additional explanation about why the action steps are important
- supporting text recapping important points and providing links to other resources
These steps are presented in order of priority, with the top three sections offering the highest impact on your home's fire safety. If you proceed though the content using the left menu from top to bottom, you will address the most important concerns first for the majority of homeowners in a Wildland-Urban interface (WUI) area.
Finally, there is also a section of supplemental material covering topic such as different considerations for more urban homes, consideration for new home design, community planning for future wildfires, and more.
