Micro-Grants: History & Archive

How this program started, and Micro-Grant awards from years past

The History of MCFSC’s Micro-Grants

In 2022, the MCFSC initiated the Micro-Grant program, dedicated to bolstering the endeavors of Neighborhood Fire Safe Councils (NFSCs) and fire agencies across Mendocino County in advancing their fire-safety objectives. Annually, usually in late winter/early spring, our Micro-Grant program invites applications from local groups, fostering community engagement.

The program’s impact surged in 2023 and 2024, thanks to generous $50,000 matching grants from the PG&E Corporation Foundation. Grants ranging from $2,000–$10,000 have made a crucial impact on relatively small but key priority projects.

By activating the power of local collaboration and proactive planning, MCFSC’s Micro-Grants go far beyond mere monetary assistance – they are catalysts for local coordination, organization and action, igniting a spirit of volunteerism to collectively create community safety. They also play a vital role in fortifying relationships within and between Neighborhood Fire Safe Councils (NFSCs) and fire departments.

Since its inception in 2022, the MCFSC has allocated hundreds of thousands of dollars to local NFSCs and fire agencies in the County through our Micro-Grants. Explore some of the stories below to discover impactful prior projects that showcase Mendocino County’s enduring commitment to fire safety and community well-being.
