Fire Agencies in Mendocino County
Information about local Fire Agencies
The map below shows Fire Agencies in Mendocino County. Click on the colored squares to see the agency name, contact info and website (if available). It is also listed underneath the map.
Most Fire Agencies are Special Districts, meaning they are local government agencies that provide a specific function or set of functions such as fire protection. Districts are represented on the map as solid colored blocks. Districts are created by community members and approved by the County following state law to provide essential services that cities and counties may not be able to adequately provide. Districts have set legal boundaries, can pass local ordinances and can collect fees and property taxes from within their boundaries to fulfill their functions. Two Fire Agencies in Mendocino, Westport and Whale Gulch, are nonprofits operating without the ability to collect taxes. These agencies are represented on the map as colored stripes.
Most Districts in Mendocino do not have fully contiguous boundaries. However, Mendocino Fire Agencies work together to respond countywide and to provide mutual aid across boundaries ensuring all citizens receive emergency support for fires, hazards, traffic accidents and medical calls. All Fire Agencies in Mendocino rely on volunteers to provide some portion or all of their services.
The Fire Agency map is for informational purposes only and not suitable for legal or surveying purposes. It represents only the approximate location of all boundaries shown.
